WORLD CANCER DAY: JOHNSON DURU CALLS FOR INCREASED AWARENESS

Hon. Engr. Johnson Iheonukara Duru, member for Ideato South State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, has joined the global community in marking World Cancer Day, with a call for increased awareness and action against the disease.

Dikeoha made the call today, to commemorate the 2026 World Cancer Day. He stressed that routine cancer screening is paramount and encouraged the people of Ideato nation to prioritize it.

“Cancer is stealing from us in astronomical numbers due to late presentation and detection. Each story of survival and death reminds us that we owe so much to raising awareness and taking stronger actions to reduce the burden of cancer in our communities.

He noted that lifestyle and diet can lower the chances of getting cancer. “In the heart of cancer care and education is the fact that early detection remains the key to achieving the right solution”.

He therefore urged the people to prioritize routine screening for early detection and treatment, noting that Cancer becomes deadly only when detected late.
