Former Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, has met with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area at his country home in Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the ongoing ward sensitisation tour of the ADC in Ngor-Okpala and discuss ways to strengthen the party at the grassroots. The engagement also focused on the need for party leaders and members to remain united, organised and committed to taking the message of the ADC to communities across the local government.
Addressing the Ngor-Okpala ADC leadership, Ihedioha expressed confidence in their ability to build a strong and effective party structure across the local government. He encouraged them to intensify their engagement with the people and explain the vision, values and programmes of the ADC in clear and simple terms.
He urged the party leaders to use his record of service to Ngor-Okpala during his time as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives as part of their message to the people. He noted that his relationship with Ngor-Okpala goes beyond politics, describing the area as his maternal home and a community to which he has a deep and lasting connection.
“My love for Ngor-Okpala has no bounds because it is my maternal home. I will continue to love the people and do everything within my powers and within the law to support the development and progress of Ngor-Okpala. I want Ngor-Okpala to be recognised for good reasons, and I will continue to contribute to that goal,” Ihedioha said.
He further encouraged the leadership to remain close to the people, listen to their concerns and make the ADC a platform where citizens can participate meaningfully in the political process.
Speaking at the meeting, the State Chairman of the Imo State ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, commended the leadership of Ngor-Okpala for its commitment to the ongoing ward sensitisation exercise. He said the state leadership was determined to build a strong grassroots structure that would give every member and supporter a sense of belonging.
Prof. Okoroma urged the Ngor-Okpala leadership to continue working together and take the message of the ADC to every ward and community. He emphasised that the strength of the party depends on its presence at the grassroots and the ability of its leaders to connect directly with the people.
Also speaking, the Apex Leader of Ngor-Okpala, Chief Sir Henry Ekpe, appreciated Ihedioha for his continued interest in the affairs and development of Ngor-Okpala. He described the meeting as an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the political leadership and the grassroots structure of the ADC in the local government.
He assured the state leadership that the ongoing ward sensitisation tour would be sustained and expanded to reach more communities and residents across the local government.
