Imo PDP Dismisses Ibadan Convention, backs Anyanwu others as leaders

The Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State chapter, has again dismissed the purported National Convention in Ibadan on November 16, 2025, as a mere gathering of a lawless Committee of Friends for a tea party, insisting that the ludicrous attempt of the group to overreach themselves was ultimately futile as it oozed illegality, recklessness, abuse and contempt.

This was contained in a communique issued by the party in the State after a well attended Stakeholders meeting on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

The stakeholders threw their weight behind His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike as party’s National Leader; Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman; and Dist. Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

They also expressed solid support for Rt. Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, as the Imo State Chairman.

The resolution is as follows:

1. That we dissociate ourselves with the ill-fated and unlawful Ibadan convention, hailing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its astute decision to boycott the invalid gathering. This commendable stance vindicates our commitment to upholding the Rule of Law and democratic principles.

2. That we unequivocally state that the entire Imo State PDP stakeholders are solidly behind our State Chairman Rt. Hon Austine Nwachukwu.

3. That the contributions of the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike from 2015 when the PDP rose from controlling barely four States to having 16 State Governors cannot be wished away.

4. That from all available records in the activities of the PDP, the F.C.T Minister has paid his dues and supported the party to the point he deserves the position of the National Leader of our great Party.

5. That on the basis of the above, the Imo State Chapter of the PDP rising from her Stakeholder meeting of today November 22, 2025, unanimously resolved that Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is and remains the undisputed National leader of our great Party.

6. We lend our total support, reiterate our confidence in Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman of our great party; Distinguish Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary; Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as BOT Chairman.

7. That Imo PDP and her Stakeholders are in total support of their son and National Secretary Distinguished Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.

8. The stakeholders of Imo PDP indeed are proud of the H/E Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister for his exceptional performance as the FCT Minister and his immense contributions to the stability of our great party.

9. We stand solidly in support of discipline and constitutional order returning to our party and will continue to pursue and support only actions that promote due process, internal democracy and respect for the Rule of Law which are the tenets upon which the party was founded.
