The Ideato South Local Government, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief Okwara Okechukwu (JP), in synergy with the Councillors of the local government, has successfully attracted the attention of the Federal and State Governments to the long-abandoned 132×33kV, electric power distribution substation equipped with two 2×2 MVA transformers, located in Isiekenesi, Ideato South.
Team of top management staff of the Imo State Electricity Regulation Commission (ISERC), led by Sir Engr Celestine Onwuharaonye, visited the site to ascertain the level of preparedness for the resumption of construction work. He expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the local government for ensuring that no equipment or material was stolen or vandalized during the long period that work stopped at the site. He assured the local government and the contractor of the support of the Imo State Government under the visionary leadership of Distinguished Senator Dr Hope Uzodimma.
The Chief Engineer of the firm handling the construction of this distribution substation, Engr A.O. Bashiru, assured that work will soon resume on site, following recent moves by the Federal Government to ensure the completion of the project. He informed them that the distribution substation is capable of serving about six local governments, and as such, he requested that the State Government, alongside the local government, render the needed assistance to complete the project, assuring that, in the near future, work will resume on site.
The Executive Chairman of Ideato South Local Government, Hon. Chief Okwara Okechukwu ‘Morocco’ JP, thanked the team from the Imo State Electricity Regulation Commission (ISERC) for visiting the site and expressed optimism that the visit would certainly result in the resumption of work on site and the subsequent completion, owing largely to the trust in the capacity and commitment of the State Governor, Dr Hope Uzodimma, to deliver infrastructure that will directly impact the lives of the people and set up Imo for rapid economic growth.
The project facilitator and a former senior staff of NEPA, Engr Barnabas Elendu, an illustrious son of Isiekenesi in Ideato South Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the State Government and the local government for their assistance and partnership in ensuring that this lofty project is not abandoned but completed, so that the people of Ideato and Imo, in general, will begin to enjoy the benefits.
The Honorable Councillor of Isiekenesi Ward 1, and Deputy Leader of the Council, RT. Hon. Cyprian Obiagwu, who was responsible for championing the move when he brought it up at the floor of the 7th Assembly of Ideato South Legislative Council, thanked the Governor of Imo State for his quick response in sending people from ISERC to visit the site. He also thanked the Executive Chairman of Ideato South Local Government, Hon. Okwara Okechukwu ‘Morocco’, for the synergy and collaboration with the legislative council to ensure the resumption of work at the project site.
